Livingston Democrats Announce 2009 Slate

Livingston NY - 9/17/2009  The Livingston Democrats have announced the slate of candidates nominated at its 2009 caucus held on September 2 at Livingston Town Hall.


Phil Williams was nominated for re-election to the position of town supervisor. Supervisor Williams was elected in 2005 defeating incumbent Donald Kline as a result of a controversy involving the Livingston Town Clerk Cynthia Hapeman. Phil is a lifelong Democratic and currently is a deputy chair of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. Phil addressed the caucus indicating that he planned to run on his record of accomplishment over the last fours years that has improved town services and kept a cap on property taxes. The Working Families Party has also endorsed Phil.

Cynthia Hapeman has been nominated for re-election to the position of town clerk/tax collector. Cynthia has served in the position since being appointed in 2003, elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2005. Cynthia is a registered Democratic who has been endorsed by the Republican, Conservative and Independent parties. Cynthia indicated that continuing to update the technology of the clerk’s office is a priority for the next four years.

Nominated for the town justice was Robert Q. Moore. Justice Moore has been a sitting justice in the Town of Livingston for 32 years. He is one of the most experienced and respected jurists in the county and the Livingston Democrats unanimously nominated him. The Republican, Conservative and Independent parties also endorsed Justice Moore.

Nominated for the town council positions were James Guzzi and Joe Leto. Jimmy Guzzi has been a councilman for eight years and prior to that served on the County Planning Board and the Livingston re-zone committee. He operates several businesses in the town and is an active volunteer for many organizations. Jimmy is a lifelong Republican and was endorsed by the Republican, Conservative and Independent parties. Joe Leto is the owner/operator of Brook-In-Wood Campground and has been active in the town emergency management committee. Joe is a Republican who ran for Councilman in 2007 with the Democrat endorsement. The Republican and Conservative parties endorse him.


The caucus did not nominate but supports Dave Lyons for Highway Superintendent. Dave and his highway crew have done an excellent job responding to the December Ice Storm, the propane emergency at Blue Store and the recent severe electrical storm/twister as well as keeping our town highways cleared and safe. Dave is a Republican who has been endorsed by the Republican, Conservative and Independent parties.
 

Non-Democrat candidates have until September 25 to accept or decline endorsements. Except for the Supervisor position all candidates in Livingston are running unopposed.
